Cetinje is the capital of Montenegro, known for its rich cultural and historical heritage. It is located in Cetinje field, below the mountain Lovćen. The two most important buildings that make Cetinje recognizable are the Cetinje Monastery and the Biljarda (Billiard House).
Cetinje Monastery was built in 1701. It houses the relics of St Petar Cetinjski – one of the brightest figures in Montenegrin history. Although the Turks repeatedly destroyed it, the people always rebuilt it.
Biljarda was built by Njegoš for state purposes, and he named it after the billiard who he liked to play. Cetinje abounds in museums, it houses art colleges, parks, and the Orlov Krš offers a beautiful panorama of the city and Mount Lovcen.
Rijeka Crnojevića , a small town situated by the river of the same name is one of the most beautiful small towns in Montenegro. In addition to its natural beauty, it also stands out for its importance in terms of Montenegrin history. The story begins at the time of the ruler of Zeta, Ivan Crnojevic (1465-1490) who, in order to escape the Turkish army, erected a fort and a monastery on Obod, whose church is dedicated to St Nicholas. There he transferred his capital from the fortress Zabljak, and the monastery became the seat of the Metropolitan of Zeta.
Its significance is reflected in the fact that it was the place where the first Cyrillic book “Oktoih prvoglasnik” was published in 1494.
Pavlova strana is one of the most famous landscapes that visitors enthusiastically photograph.
In terms of food, the specialty was Ukljeva (a species of bleak), which is why it is traditionally celebrated every year in December during the Vino i Ukljeva Festival in Virpazar.
