Virpazar is an urban settlement in the municipality of Bar in Montenegro. Virpazar is a fairytale place where guests can find what they need most: spring water fountain, shade of old and tall plane trees, organic food and friendly hosts. It is located at the confluence of the Orahovica and Crmnica rivers. Virpazar also has three stone bridges that have been mentioned in several old folk songs. It is famous for its local wine, and if you happen to be here in December, you can visit the Vino i Ukljeva Festival and enjoy the event itself.
Skadarsko jezero (Skadar Lake) is the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula (391 km2). 2/3 of Lake Skadar belong to Montenegro, while 1/3 is in the territory of the Republic of Albania. The Montenegrin part of the lake with the coast was declared a National Park in 1983. Skadar Lake is a cryptodepression because some of its parts are below sea level. Skadar Lake is the largest bird reserve in Europe, which makes many bird lovers come and enjoy watching them in this indescribable habitat. The cultural and historical significance of the island on Skadar Lake is enormous. Nearby is the fortress of Lesendro, and after the demolition by the Turks – Njegoš rebuilt the fort, increased the walls and often came here to rest. The fort provided unimpeded fishing and trade. Lesendro was under his management for eleven years after being captured by the Turks. In 1878, Lesendro was liberated again with the town of Zabljak Crnojevic. Also nearby is the Grmozur fortress known as the Montenegrin Alcatraz, built during the reign of Nikola Petrovic, where they imprisoned their dissidents. The whole area is culturally and historically very rich.
